This drawing shows the size of a sphere that would contain all of Earth’s water in comparison to the size of the Earth. The blue sphere sitting on the United States, reaching from about Salt Lake City, Utah to Topeka, Kansas, has a diameter of about 860 miles (about 1,385 kilometers) , with a volume of about 332,500,000 cubic miles (1,386,000,000 cubic kilometers). The sphere includes all the water in the oceans, seas, ice caps, lakes and rivers as well as groundwater, atmospheric water, and even the water in you, your dog, and your tomato plant.

This image shows the scientists’ best guess to date of what the surface of the protoplanet Vesta might look like from the south pole, as projected onto a sphere 250 kilometers (160 miles) in radius. It was created as part of an exercise for NASA’s Dawn mission involving mission planners at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and science team members at the Planetary Science Institute in Tuscon, Ariz.

Support a project for a great cause

I don’t ask for support often, but a friend needs help for a good cause. My friend Lesli is helping coordinate a project to support a team of riders, Team Ride Read; the team will race to bring awareness to the number one killer in women — heart disease. This project serves a cause so large that help from a community of supportive friends is welcome. This is, in a nutshell, what this project is all about:

A four woman cycling team from Austin, Texas will race over 3,000 miles from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD to bring attention to the number one killer of women - heart disease.

I made a pledge, and I ask you to do the same if this cause means something to you. Whether you know it or not you have a mom, daughter, niece, sister, grandmother, co-worker, or friend that is touched by heart disease. Helping is easy, here is the Team Ride Red website.

The full (super)moon is seen as it rises near the Lincoln Memorial, Saturday, March 19, 2011, in Washington. The full moon tonight is called a “Super Perigee Moon” since it is at its closest to Earth in 2011. The last full moon so big and close to Earth occurred in March of 1993.
